#Occupy Portland Stockpiling Weapons to Use Against Police

Occupy Portland Overdoses and Public Safety Information – 11/12/11
On November 11, 2011, Portland Police officers assigned to the Occupy Portland encampments were contacted by people inside the camps about improvised weapons being found. Officers also received information that a man was going to damage police cars parked outside the encampments.

Officers made contact with the man and he relinquished his six foot long bamboo pole. No damage was done to any patrol cars and no arrests were necessary.

The Portland Police Bureau appreciates the ongoing efforts of people within the encampments to share information with officers about people committing crimes and stockpiling improvised weapons. Anyone with this kind of information should immediately share it with a police officer. Attached are two photos of items turned over to police from people within the Occupy Portland encampments.

Officers continue to see people packing up and leaving the encampments and officers are sharing information about shelter options with people in the encampments.

Teams of outreach workers continue to walk through the encampments and are providing information and assistance to homeless adults and youth in locating safe shelter space. Groups from Janus Youth Programs, JOIN, Transition Projects, Yellow Brick Road, Cascadia, and Can We Help have all been actively working with city officials and police to insure that people in need of services know where to go and how to obtain them.

The Portland Police Bureau anticipates that cooperation will continue with many people at the encampments and is encouraged by efforts to have a peaceful transition out of Chapman and Lownsdale Square parks. The Portland Parks Bureau is onsite and assisting people with clean up efforts of debris and unwanted property.

Friday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers and medical personnel assisted a man suffering from a drug overdose in the middle of Lownsdale Square. The man was revived and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

This morning, Saturday November 12, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers and medical personnel assisted a young woman suffering from a drug overdose. The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was revived and has been transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Attached are updated crime stats for the police patrol districts around the Occupy Portland encampments.

Portland Stockpiling Weapons to Use Against Police

No where does it say that.

This is almost as large of a lie as the whole Acorn is funding OWS. How many articles have they had now like this? http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/11/07/house-oversight-chair-calls-for-probe-into-acorn-occupy-wall-street/

How is anyone supposed to take the news seriously any more?

“The Portland Police Bureau appreciates the ongoing efforts of people within the encampments to share information with officers about people committing crimes and stockpiling improvised weapons.”

Bunny, there are other sources which cite the stockpiling of homemade weapons, like boards with nails driven through them and shields. Google it.

Given that everyone in America has access to firearms why is this a big deal? If they were violent wouldn’t they be stockpiling guns?

Please put it into perspective. Board with nail verses police in riot gear with guns, body armour, and tear gas? Boy those protesters are planning a big uprising.

Ah, but you didn’t look closely at the terrible weapons. Wood’s source has links to the photos.

“boards with nails” was a pallet with some nails in it. A couple protestors wearing work gloves could strip the body armor off a comatose policeman, heft the pallet, and press it into his/her body to cause 3 or 4 puncture wounds.
          http://www.flashalertnewswire.net/images/news/2011-11/3056/49288/Pallet.jpg

If they were truly diabolical, they’d put apples and oranges on the nails and pretend to be an innocent fruit cart as they slowly approached the police lines.

If the Pallet of Death didn’t crush the police force, the protesters were ready with stockpiled pile of junk, aka “improvised weapons”.
          http://www.flashalertnewswire.net/images/news/2011-11/3056/49288/Improvised_Weapons.JPG

You can see that the pile of junk might trip any police running through it with scissors. The chair rung with twine clearly was designed to give a self-inflicted head wound to anyone trying to swing it around. The brave protestor volunteering for that duty would quickly drop to the ground with a bleeding wound, slowing any police advance by making an officer halt to call for an ambulance crew.

It’s a scary world out there folks. Is that just a pile of emptied pallets behind the grocery store, or is it an armory for an OWS cell?????

Hey folks, the fact of the matter is that a supposedly peaceful, non-violent movement is arming itself for possible battle against somebody or some group. Were it your friend, brother, sister, dad, uncle, whomever, or even you, who were under orders to clear the park, I think you’d take getting impaled with nails a little more seriously. But hey, its all just fun and games, right? I mean its only the police. They don’t count, obviously, unless you need them to contribute union donations to the Democrat party.

Again, it is a mis-characterization to claim that having boards with nails in it in a country where there are more guns than people could be considered “arming yourself.” Even more ridiculous to entertain the notion that people intent on causing serious damage would “stockpile” these weapons given the wide range of firearms to choose from.

I agree it is a shame that there are even these weapons popping up as it distracts from the movement and gives the media the next big thing. However it is likely they are being used on protesters by protesters.

Anyone can stop pile weapons, but just because one (or heaven forbid two) people do and live in the same city as a protest, does not mean it is tied to OWS in any way.

When the tea party was protesting they would bring automatics to rallies and all sorts of gun shit and no one would blink an eye. Now, some police in portland found a board with nails in it, in some random guys yard and is claiming OWS is up to something bad. It is BULLSHIT.

We live in a gun country. If they had any intention of using weapons it would become clear very quickly.

Stop with the speculation. It leads to nothing positive.

Bunny, when did you have any violence at a Tea Party rally? When did you have any allegations or threats made to police? When did police have to mace the rallies? How many rapes took place? How many sexual assaults? How many robberies?

There is a quite a difference in openly displaying guns at rallies that were entirely peaceful and followed all local and federal laws vs. not allowing law enforcement in, not allowing media in, and basically hiding the protest from public safety officials.

And the organizers of #OWS have been very clear that their goal is violence. They have openly spoke about it. Here is a link that will help you understand this: http://leestranahan.com/why-occupiers-malcolm-harris-respects-glenn-beck

Finally, this was not speculation. It is directly from the Portland Police’s website.

“Hey folks, the fact of the matter is that a supposedly peaceful, non-violent movement is”
voluntarily reporting suspicious persons to police and turning suspicious items over to the police.

Wood, get a grip. Nothing in those pictures is half as dangerous as some routine campsite items, including hammers, spikes, knives, and cylinders of cooking fuel.

Hell, nothing there was as dangerous as a camera tripod.

    You going goofy on us?

Ott, it is moot now, as it looks like the camp has been cleared out, without incident. You can continue to ignore the fact that the occupiers have been anything but peaceful, but the rest of us are not naive. We have seen the evidence of murder, rape, sexual assault, and attacks on police that have happened in the camps and marches. The fact of the matter is that there were obviously some people in the Portland movement who were preparing weapons. You can ignore it, spin it, whatever you want. But it is the truth, and it is just another data point that proves the Occupy movements are either anarchist in nature, or cover for anarchists. And since there is not much difference between anarchy and pure libertarianism, I’m not sure that I would disagree much with a movement that seeks to dismantle the government. My vote would be for it to be dismantled peacefully, through the political process, rather than through violence. We will be lucky if the occupy camps are cleared out across the country without more violence.

TJWP, lol, your assumption is false because everyone knows that liberals do not own firearms. That is why they use boards with nails in them. lol… Or Molotov cocktails, rocks, whatever.

C’mon, an “armed liberal” is an oxymoron, surely.

Or, as an alternative explanation to yours, perhaps it is a largely peaceful movement where certain elements have taken advantage of large gatherings to smash stuff, light fires… etc. To say that this represents the movement as a whole is another thing all together.

As for armed liberals, I don’t consider myself a liberal although I’m sure many would consider me one. I abhor labels like “liberal” or “conservative.” Instead of adhering ideology people should consider issues individually and upon merit. In any case, I digress. I am, by most standards, a liberal and yet I own guns, strongly believe it is every persons right to do so and when time permits am an avid hunter.

TJWP, I was joking…just making fun of the stereotypes.

The other side of this for me is watching the media zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz through these protests, all the while knowing that if it were a Tea Party protest where someone got raped, murdered, or assembled boards with nails to use against police, the media would be absolutely foaming at the mouth. And then imagine if a journalist had been assaulted at a Tea Party rally? It happens at #Occupy and the media rolls over and goes back to sleep.

The idea that “certain elements have taken advantage of large gatherings” was definitely not given to the Tea Party protests. Why should they be given to Occupy?

No doubt you are right. I’m just saying why should that benefit of doubt be provided to one group and not to another?

I’m not meaning to imply that you agree/disagree with media coverage of the Occupy vs. Tea Party protests. I’m just remarking on it because it is interesting to me.

Leave them in place. They stink up their own positions. The longer they exist the more disgusted people get. Disgusted people vote.

The Portland scene is really weird. Police from all over the area are being brought in to move them around. There’s hundreds of police in riot gear, but they just stand around doing very little. Hundreds of people have gone down there to join the party atmosphere. They have been moved out of the 2 parks they occupied for the last 5 weeks. They were shithole mud styes unfit for pigs to live in. They were marching to the downtown merchant area.

Millions of $ in overtime for all these police officers at a time when gov’t resources are stretched very thin. The protesters are doing a lot of good. (not)

I live in Portland, have been watching this on the news throughout the day and I’m still left wondering: what the fuck are these assholes “protesting”? This started as an offshoot of the OWS “movement”, now it’s turned into a typical bullshit me-first selfish protest regarding the “right to gathter”. Hey fuckfaces, guess what, those cops that are “the enemy” are also part of the “99%”…so they are technically on your side. Face it, your utopia eventually turned into a place for every bum from St. Johns to Sellwood to come get a hot meal, score some dope and maybe throw in a few sexual assaults for good measure. You think you are making a difference, well you aren’t…you are just pissing people off and are a fucking embarrassment to this city. Thanks for that.
