I saw this movie… This is the part where Tom Cruise evades the law because he’s convicted of something he didn’t do before the result of the minority report.

Yeah, I think it would be insane to arrest people for future crimes. However, we could have “police stalkers” that follow “future suspects” around waiting to save people or something. It would allow us to better employ spys into terrorist organizations.

Also, perhaps we could slap community service and psychological counseling and close supervision, but no real jail time.

Although that would still be unjust for the “false positives” or people that fit the profile but won’t actually commit a crime, and unfortunately for some it might tip them over the edge and make it worse, who knows.

The problem with crime prevention is there could be a lot of unintended consequences like I don’t know, a civil war perhaps. Also, say it targeted people with certain characteristics that can be changed, would these people not just make it harder for anyone to detect and find better ways of blending in? So ultimately it may make stopping crime even worse especially if police become dependent upon a machine and start to lose their own ability and intuition to notice things that are suspicious.
