Clouds do not Cause Climate Change: Study

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/09/110906121951.htm

Andrew Dessler, a Texas A&M atmospheric sciences professor considered one of the nation’s experts on climate variations, says decades of data support the mainstream and long-held view that clouds are primarily acting as a so-called “feedback” that amplifies warming from human activity. His work is published in the American Geophysical Union’s peer-reviewed journal Geophysical Research Letters.

“The bottom line is that clouds have not replaced humans as the cause of the recent warming the Earth is experiencing,” Dessler says.

Dessler adds, “Over a century, however, clouds can indeed play an important role amplifying climate change.”

“I hope my analysis puts an end to this claim that clouds are causing climate change,” he adds.

Yes! This so succinctly highlights the failings of the current climate models: they cannot account for the feedback from coulds!

The models see clouds as a result of temperature.

Actually, there is evidence to suggest that it is much more complicated, where clouds affect and are also affected by temperature.

Also, an analysis of the paper you posted shows the slope of the data used has an r^2 of just .01045 (which is to say, there was no relationship).

You might also note, Juice, there has not been any significant warming over the last decade. Since the research used the last 10 years worth of data, it should not surprise anyone that there showed a weak or no relationship between the clouds and the data.

Climate change is the issue. I believe it is incorrectly called Global Warming even as periods of warming will naturally occur, they are exaggerated by too many humans, their nature-irresponsible ways and the inability of the planet to absorb mans punches without striking back with ever greater force.

The ever exponentially increasing population is putting immeasurable stresses on the environment causing more severe climactic volatility, resulting in storms of primeval power and destruction.

There is no evidence for that, whatsoever, Juice. Lol…even the cheerleaders over at RealClimate would not agree with you. Welcome to the extreme of the fringe of the extreme.

Sounds more like animism than scientific theory

Well, whordes of scientists would disagree. As Spock would say, “It’s only logical, Captain.”

“Exponential population growth?” Do you even know what that means? Exponential means “squared and cubed” — we are not even growing that quickly.

IN fact, population growth is slowing, and will likely start to shrink by mid century… we do not have a surfeit of people, god forbid.

The “earth” is not a person, and in any case is not “violently punching back” at anything. It’s a self cleansing mechanism, and if anything, industry is getting cleaner, and wildlife — both flora and fauna — are getting more abundant.

We have no more impact upon the earth’s “climate” than does the common dung beetle, of which there are far more than humans extant.
