Over 1,450 School Bus Related Deaths Since 1990 – School Bus Ban Proposed

In the United States of America since 1990, over 1,450 humans have died related to school bus accidents and of those about 10% were children. In the same time, ~224 people (students, faculty, gunmen, etc.) have been killed related to school shootings.

Ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban,ban…..

There will be one last post regarding guns and why I have my concealed carry permit.

  1. Maximus, sir, can you post a link to your source?

I dug around a bit and found some fatality statistics, which had 1,384 deaths from 2000 to 2009 for people being transported to school, but the 1,384 count included buses, non-buses, and occupants of vehicles that ran into school buses.

  2. Here’s one publication I found. This one has data from 2001 – 2010

    http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/811618.pdf

From the report, “Since 2000, 130 school-age pedestrians (younger than 19) have died in school
transportation-related crashes. Over two-thirds (67%) were struck by school buses,
6 percent by vehicles functioning as school buses, and 27 percent by other vehicles
involved in the crashes. There were 56 (43%) school-age pedestrians killed in
school transportation-related crashes between the ages of 5 and 7.”

But even at 13 kids killed year who are in the transport or bus, that’s still pretty deadly.

In the US, more kids are dying from being transported to and from school each year than being killed by guns.

  3. How many of those deaths were the result of some bat shit crazy asshole waking up on the wrong side of the bed, getting hold of a school bus, and unleashing mayhem?

Please provide links to your answer. Thanks.

  4. Po Pimp:

Why does it matter? Are you suggesting that a child’s life who dies in a school bus accident is worth less than one who dies due to the action of a madman? Loss of innocent life, for any reason, is a tragedy. What is your basis for apparently assigning some lives more value than others simply due to the circumstances of death?

Please provide links to your answer. Thanks.
