Lost amidst all the shuffle was one of my best trading days in a long while, with (unrealized) gains topping 5%, which is excellent considering that I’m 85% cash…thank you [[CHK]], [[DVN]], [[EOG]]!
Tomorrow I will be looking to get into a few earnings plays, with straddles in some old favorites such as [[CELG]], [[CROX]], [[HANS]], [[OMG]].
Others on the radar include:
- Calls in [[JWN]], [[PVH]]-(above $44.50-$45)
- Puts in [[AMLN]]
- Watching the ascending triangle in [[AVB]]
- Also liking RC’s [[LUFK]], especially if it breaks above $78

i’ve got some OTM June $40 calls in HANS. i’m nervous. do you have any suggestions of how I should play this? I’m thinking of just dumping them today, as I’m in a small winning position, but it’d kill me if HANS jumps 10% tomorrow.

I should look this up in your previous posts, but which STP calls do you own, and are they hedged at all?
Sounds like you want to stay in the earnings lottery no matter what. So I’d keep as many calls as you’re comfortable with losing (assume you’re going to lose the whole position as your risk) and sell the rest. If they do jump tomorrow, you’re golden…otherwise you just lose what you already had assumed.
Ideally, we’ll see a bit of a run-up today…if that’s the case, you could sell part/enough of your position to guarantee a breakeven and then keep the remainder for the earnings lotto.
You could also add some puts and make your position a straddle/strangle.
I bought a straddle this morning with 35. calls & puts. As usual, I made the whole position equal my maximum risk, so I’m assuming that in the worst case I’d lose the whole thing.
Tomorrow morning, based on the earnings, I will look to sell the ‘losing’ leg and ride the ‘winning’ leg as long as possible. Unless it’s a dud like CSCO (in which case the straddle as well as the OTM calls are kinda fooked).

I own June 45. calls. Bought yesterday as it broke Monday’s highs, thus confirming $41 as support (which served as a high in February). Not hedged, just a 30% trailing stop to avoid egregious losses (after this gap-up it should now guarantee a 10% profit regardless).

Sounds like a good plan. A small/cheap lotto ticket is sometimes all you need.

Hleb might be gone. but no way will they let Fab go. no way. I don’t think there will be a mass exodus. but i would like it if Eboue left. however, i’m not sure if anyone else wants him.
Flamini is gone, gilberto might stay now, but even if he goes to, we still have Diaby, Denilson, and song. I like both diaby and denilson as holding midfielder prospects.
We need to buy some wing support for Hleb and always injured Rosicky.
Whatever happens, I will rest easy over the summer, because i know we will fight for the title again. We lead the league for almost the entire season. I still blame the disaster at Birmingham for our season, with that terrible challenge on Eduardo
