The Greatest New Wave Hit Ever to Prominently Employ an Accordian
_________________________________
Aside from that fantastic musical interlude, as written, played and sung by musical prodigy Matt Johnson of The The (no, really, that was the band’s name), who later in life went on to shave his head and post semi-lucid conspiracy rants on the internets. And no, I kid you not– it’s kinda sad actually. I won’t link his blog, as you’ve seen it all before.
On the trading scene, I’ve got very little to add tonight. We only need see this dollar issue resolve. If we are in a bull flag situation, we should quickly spurt above $78.1o on the DX-Y, and then we are “clean” out of all PM’s and miners. I will continue to keep my Skiffles (SKF) as I believe that will be keeping me somewhat warm throughout the Mort Kondracky Winter. A break of that $78.10 number on the dollar will actually induce me to store away more Skiffles as I await massive bank death via the whirling blades of European currency demise.
For the love of Ticonderoga pencils under $35/ a piece, please do not get shaken out too early. I assure you it will be worth the $1 or so move on the dollar index to make sure you are not being head-faked here… again. Whatever does happen, however, you should not head out to the moors seeking the Werewolf’s curse, or go down to your local discotheque seeking mad mad passionate love from Big Baby Glenn Rice. Let’s keep things in perspective and ride this puppy together.
Best to you all.

Great tune.
Jake is Dr. Goldfinger.
I may follow you into Skiffles.
$BKX looks like a possible mini reverse head’n shoulders. There could be some possible pain before possible gain for SKF, possibly. 😉
Tough trade Jake. Will all come down to next weeks FOMC … no global concerted QE and you hit pay dirt. If they do nothing, we head down the elevator shaft forcing them into doing something the following week or soon enough.
Oh, I think they have to do something…
The question is, will it be enough?

chess any thoughts on gld, i sold at (184.00)1900ish, was waitin on 1650, but didnt get there. it seems i may get another chance. do u see it droping to that level?
I’m not Chess, but I think there’s a chance you could get back to that area, sure.
___________
Oh my! Is that a Sarah Palin slap with the Glen Rice reference? I see what you did there.
Jake:
Im trying to improve my understanding of the USD and commodities. Do you always use it as a point of comparison? If not, when does this relationship break down and why use it now? My knowledge of the market is not as strong as my knowledge of politician’s sweet sweet love making.
I almost always use the dollar reference, both in commodities and stocks.
The relationship will likely never break down (much) between dollar strength and commodity weakness (and vice versa), but the inverse relationship with stocks can be mitigated by a believable commitment to a healthy currency (wherein the currency strengthens because our econoy is good, not because it’s a flight to safety release).

you’re not DJ Tbird, are you?
Afraid not.
Picture yourself on a boat on a river. With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly.
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your heaaaaaaaad.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes, and she’s gone.

Thump,
Thump.

My aunt (Mom’s youngest sister) gave me that album when I was about ten, and I wore the damn grooves out of it on our little kid’s record player.
I could probably recite the entire thing backwards if hard pressed, down to the Billy Shears introduction.
_________
Oh, I’m sorry.
Were you implying that I’ve been windowpaning?
______
(laughter) no, you mentioning cracked out celebs chasing wild conspiracy theories always makes me think of the Beetles.
What a waste of musical talent, all because Lennon thought he could be…well, Lenin…
Yeah, they were never as good apart as they were together… I think the secret sauce was George Harrison.
Still, some of their later (individual) stuff was not so bad. “Woman,” “Instant Karma,” and “Imagine” (despite its odious lyrics) were pretty clever pieces, I thought.
“Ebony and Ivory” I probably could have done without.
_______
For shame, I know, but I preferred the McCartney line after they split.
I enjoyed listening to him play the Super Bowl quite a few years back.
Was that at the Silverdome?
_____
I don’t remember. He was at a piano in the center of stage rigged with pyrotechnics and a full orchestra in a pit encircling him.
Towards the end they started setting off the fireworks in cord with the music. Phenomenal…
At least one of you is over 47.5 years old.
Not moi.
______
Fly posts Rick Ross, Jake posts The The, and CT writes about the Beatles…the music on this site is as diverse as the stocks we trade, love it.
New Wave (now called “First Wave” on Sirius, if you get the service) was my late grammar school, early high school “sweet spot.” Until listening to that Sirius channel, I hadn’t heard some of those songs in 20+ years.
Someone on Fly’s blog had posted an obscure “The The” song from a youtube video, and I noted they also had the more famous tune (above). Not until I watched the video (which I don’t recall from the 80’s) did I realize how much accordian that song employs… it’s like a bloody New Wave polka!
__________
Jake, you are cracking me up! Good to know I’m not the only conservative around (well, maybe here in Oregon) who loves a retro new wave tune now & then. I grew up in So Cal, home to KROQ, where most of the First Wave DJ’s first made a name for themselves. Funny to see how Sirius revived their career from the 80’s.
Here’s an obscure song for you from back in the day. I rediscovered it from the elevator scene at the end of Vanilla Sky. Enjoy!

Eggsellent.
I grew up listening to WLIR — a Long Island radio station out of Babylon or somewhere east of me. That new “First Wave” (was their a “Second Wave?” — I thought the First Wave was the Beatles & Stones?) is almost an exact copy of their playlist 25 years into the future. It’s eerie.
___________
Ah here… it is… WLIR — a Brief History.
________
Jake,
When you say “Clean out of all PM’s and miners,”does this mean a full 100% divestment? If so what else will you hold beside SKF and what happened to the CORE?
I will scale back even from the core. I might keep 15% rather than 30%, because we should be entering into a substantial pullback if the dollar strengthens anew.
I just want to have more dry powder lying around to play that pullback. So yeah, that means I’ll have a lot of worthless lettuce in my account for some period.
_________
The ape rape burns my SKFilis very slightly but it’s hardly unbearable.
I am seriously looking at buying some more here… maybe on the touch of the 50 day ema again.
_____
Jake,
Is there a point based on recent price at which you consider dumping a recent buy, like AUQ?
Maybe if it broke below the 200 day EMA at $10.31. Right now, however, it’s bouncing niceley off it’s 34-week EMA (10.68), and that’s probably a decent place to add.
Keep in mind, I have a very small position (relative to others) in this, so I can afford to give it some rope.

Limited government and Constitutional adherents may find this of interest. The Patriot Post is launching a “legal battle in support of our mission to reinstate Rule of Law as enshrined in our Constitution.”
This is a civil action. It “regards Breach of Oath — breach of the contract established by our Constitution between the elected and appointed members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government, and We the People. It seeks remedy for the lack of any proscription against, and penalty for such breach.”
Given our lawless state in the Republic you might think that this will be dismissed out of hand. It may very well if the people continue to sit on their thumbs and twirl.
Permit me to continue:
“We believe that this complaint complies with Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and thus should be provided a federal hearing, an assertion that, if denied by the courts, we will seek on appeal. We may also opt to file in one or more state courts should the federal courts reject this action. And last but not least, if enough Americans sign this action, the legislative option becomes viable.
We will reject the notion that the power to vote constitutes fair “representation,” where there is no assurance that representatives will abide by their oaths of office and, instead, use the treasury as an instrument to perpetuate their re-election by special interest constituencies, whose allegiance is secured with confiscated and redistributed wealth.
If American citizens are rightly found to have legal standing, then the second order of business will be to question congressional authority to lay and collect taxes, and to accumulate debt, for expenditures not expressly authorized by our Constitution, with the objective of defunding such expenditures.
We will seek to renew congressional requirements for enumeration of constitutional authority for each and every piece of legislation proposed by the Executive and Legislative branches.”
Damn bold I think.
The Oath Accountability Civil Action from The Patriot Post
Quixotian, I’d posit.

Jake,
I’m looking for answers but can’t find any.
Every thesis I have had lately has turned to dust. With the political cycle where it’s at it seems being long the market would make the most sense. Yet, the current puppet masters seem more focused on political ideology and less on true growth. I read analyst reports and research articles that only seem to cloud my decision making process. With every buy and sell order I feel like a sheep standing in line at a Merino wool sweater factory.
any thoughts?
Watch the dollar.
It’s very likely there will be at least a minor bull cycle going into the 2012 election, but I think we’ve got some turbulence before that.
_______
Jake,
Just want to thank you for the inspiration to get EXK…it wasn’t at the time you initially reco’d it, but I got in later and just sold all my shares for a respectable profit. You have restored my confidence in buying / selling. I can’t thank you enough. Personally, I don’t understand everything you state here – other than your politics (which I agree about 100% on) but I look forward to your posts and recommendations on a daily basis and personally wish you post more often…almost as often as Le Fly. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
LOL. I wish I could post like Le Fly, but I am not in front of my battle station 24-7 like him.

From Matt’s blog: “As an informed citizen it’s always useful to continually remind yourself that your government lies to you – most of the time. Yet it’s also important to remind yourself that anyone who dares question these official lies, such as the fairy tale of 9/11 as laid out in the Kean-Hamilton Commission Report, will be routinely ridiculed or marginalised as a crank, paranoiac, commie, freak, anti-American or, of course, a conspiracy theorist.”
Does Jake dutifully believe everything the government tells him to believe? Such as — steel reinforced WTC 7 should fall at free fall due to a small fire?
Besides, white boy music from the 80s was just that — white boy music from the 80s. Building a shrine around it and pretending it was significant to the rest of the world is its own little conspiracy theory.
Hit the bricks, jermaine. Roswell needs you back in the desert.
