I keep getting stopped out with the precious metal picks, even though I’m willing to look at them as long term investments. Perhaps my stops are too tight for precious metals. Do you have any advise?

Sounds like they are too tight. Why not try stepping into a position over a period of days or weeks? That’s generally what I do.
I am only very recently fully back into the SLW trading position I sold back in December, for example.
