Hot Stocks for a Cold December, Part 1 of 124

Home Inns & Hotels Management Inc. (ADR) Home Inns & Hotels Management Inc. (ADR) [[hmin]]    So what if your broke.  Everyone still loves to travel.  And I think that’s one luxury that people are not willing to give up.  Think about it… forgo a cup of coffee a day at StarBucks (never!), take the bus instead of driving, eating at home instead of eating out, shopping for socks at Ross ( Ross Stores, Inc. [[rost]] ) instead of at Nordstrom.  “Why?” I ask them… “Because I’m saving up for a trip.”  Sounds good to me.  HMIN revs are up!

[[med]]   … once again, I’m bullish on feeling good.  Even though I’m surrounded by a mountain of obstacles, pessimism, and ugly people, I still think believing in yourself can make you succeed.  But its ironic isn’t it, we have to change ourself to believe in ourself.  Why not start by losing weight?  Eating healthier?  Its clear- the American icon wants to look better and feel better.  MED, revs are up!

J. Crew Group, Inc. [[jcg]]   Hey it’s winter, so why not dress the part?  Well, if you live in Hawaii, you basically don’t do anything. Ha!  Anyway, I maybe have one tie from J.Crew, but when I’m hanging out with my boys we like to think of ourselves as the modern day Rat Pack.  A hat ain’t a hat unless its tilted.  You think Sinatra sold records without looking sharp?  Somehow I can make that apply to JCG but honestly I’m still puzzled as to why they are doing so well.  And yes… I use pocket-squares in my suit, and you should too.

Trina Solar Limited (ADR) [[TSL]]   Okay, so maybe winter is not good to solar devices, but I’m going all out here and predicting that TSL will be one of the 3 best performing solar stocks in 2010.  So, short all the other Chinese solars, and hop aboard the TSL train.

[[TRIT]] Shhhhh… don’t tell anyone, but this stock is hot!  I mean sizzling hot.  Just wait for a nice and natural pullback.  Not much is known about them yet, for example, why their revenues are moving quite fast.  Maybe its a new trend?  Anyway, use her

… there you have it.  5 stocks you should buy now or in the near future to keep you warm during your lonely nights.

Oops, TATA

Hi all.  Wow it’s great to live in Hawaii.  Someone asked me about the living condition here- economic, social, etc… I’ll get to you, I promise!  It’s been hectic, so I decided to book two rooms and two nights for some friends at the Outrigger Reef in Waikiki.  Ha!  Where else can you take a mini weekend vacation 15 minutes away from home?  Hey RC, I finally had my first few beers at Buffalo Wild Wings [[BWLD]] … man that’s a great place!  No wonder you’ve been bullish on them for a few months now.  That place was packed.  Well, relatively packed, I mean, Waikiki has been pretty dead these past few days.  Anyway, as I was sitting on the beach trying to forget about the stock market I realized that TATA is not Chinese.  Oh well, my bad… the point was that I was bullish more on foreign stocks than American stocks.  The greed just doesn’t stop here, and I think the laws of economics will prove that those who work hard will survive.

Oh hey, it’s December!  I’m in a good mood.  Time for some hot December stocks for your cold winter days.  I’ll be blogging from the beach .  Take that Mr. Lindzon!

Pick of the week:  short VZ  (because T-Mobile will win the iPod), plus 32.50 looks tough to beat.

Do Chinese Celebrate Thanksgiving?

Probably a dumb question.

Anyway, I have guest from China!  Woo hoo.  They are actually my sisters friends (she is fluent in Mandarin), but they’ll be staying with me for a few days.   I’m kind of excited because I’ve been in this international flavor these past couple of days.  I mean just yesterday I talked story with this Japanese guy (full on accent) about how bad tourism is here in Hawaii now (he’s a production manager for Japanese concerts etc. in Hawaii).  “Slowest its been in 13 years in Hawaii,” he says.

So, I’m learning a few quick Chinese words:

不客气。 Bú kèqi.     You’re welcome.

谢谢。 Xièxiè.   (Shay-shay.  Lol.)  Thank you.

再见。 Zàijiàn   Goody Bye!

不要碰我! (búyào pèng wǒ!)   Don’t touch me!

Anyway, we have this huge language barrier so it’s hard to ask them about the economy in Shanghai.  I already tried “So, how’s Sohu.com?  Um, have you heard of Baidu.com?”  …haha.  I’m getting no where so far.

Anyway, no new trades this past 2 days because I think the market is very light due to the holiday-trading effect. Honestly though, this has got to be the busiest 2 weeks ever!   I’ve been writing a program and designing a system for a large event- basically I have to take care of 350 people- scheduling and organizing, and its driving me nuts!   But for now, thanks to my guests I can’t help but leave you with my top 5 Chinese stocks at the moment:

1.  Shanda Interactive Entertainment Ltd ADR [[snda]]   … straight up internet play.

2.  [[tata]]   … hype play.

3.  Yingli Green Energy Hold. Co. Ltd. (ADR) [[yge]]    … momentum play.

4.  Baidu.com, Inc. (ADR) [[bidu]]   … internet still in growth stage.

5.  Focus Media Holding Limited (ADR) [[fmcn]]   … technology getting popular in other countries.

I’ll be staying in Waikiki this weekend, so I’ll probably be blogging from a nearby StarBucks again like the good old days.  Have a safe and fun vacation too!

Zàijiàn,
Global Gio

Trade: FSYS, BWLD

New shorts:  FSYS (49.50)   , BWLD (41.05)

Shorting today’s rally.  To me, these stocks are on sale from a bear’s perspective.  I don’t know, I just had to short into this rally, so I went looking for stocks with market cap < 1 B, and PPT hybrid score of > 3, or a hybrid daily change of +15% in at least two cumuluative days.

Busy day this week.  I know a lot of you are on vacation, so I hope you have a fun and safe one!  Mine doesn’t start until December.  Odd no.   Cheers!

It’s That Time of the Year Again!

Well hey, Black Thursday is next week, which means now it’s time to short retail.  That’s right, I said short it!  I’m crazy, I know.  But it’s the art of being a contrarian trader.  The play is so obvious, that the smart money will begin selling.  Don’t worry bulls, this is only a short term effect that short-term swing traders take advantage of.  I’m not going to say it’s seasonality, but I will say that the market has been climbing quite high on very low volume, and it’s been a real killer to the bears.  So, if there would be a time to sell, then it would be during the time when the herd thinks that Santa is going to save the market.

Look to short bad quality companies that have either accounting issues or are influenced by court cases, even retails that sell trendy products.  For now my list of these fast moving stocks include Overstock.com, Inc. [[OSTK]] , Gmarket Inc. (ADR) [[GMKT]] , [[LULU]] , [[UARM]] .

In the meantime, I am monitoring the cheap/discount retailers like Ross Stores, Inc. [[rost]] and Dollar Tree, Inc. [[dltr]] which is probably going to hold strong so if you’re looking to pair a short, then start there.  Anyway, I’ll probably be shorting OSTK and LULU sometime soon.  No offense if you’ve been riding them.    Charts up this weekend.

Trade: HLF, MED

New longs:  HLF (43.60)

New shorts:  MED (28.29)

Hi guys, gotta keep this short.  Just got back from breakfast, had some macadamia nut coconut pancakes… I bet you don’t have those!  Anyway, my sister and brother-in-law are in town so I’m playing entertainer.  Then I have some friends from China coming in next week, so I get to go island hopping.  Meanwhile, I manage to make 2 small trades early this morning which is a pair-traid on my “improve-yourself” sector play.  It’s a long on Herbalife Ltd. [[HLF]] paired with a short on [[med]] .  I believe MED will drop a few spots on the IBD100 by December, so just using that to hedge myself.  These are all at 1/3 position.  I’ll post the next fills probably early next week.  I must say though just be careful trading next week… it will be a strong holiday week so the market will not act normal.

Try Hawaii!  It’s a little hole in the wall, but good stuff…
