Late Night Strategy for Tuesday

Brooklyn Bridge New York City - NY

I highlighted my F GM shorts on Monday, and TSLA has been relatively weak of late compared to other momentum leaders like FB.

At the same time, a potential pare trade setting up may be to go long India car maker TTM against those shorts.

On the weekly chart, below, note the high and tight bull flag. As long as $45 holds I view the pattern as intact and this name as a long setup on strength.

Drop me your top tickers overnight.

Ready for the Ritual Autumn Battle

You can feel the rising stakes in this market, as we are certainly at that time of year seasonally when both sides will be duking it out for the initiative. Bulls have held the throne for a while now, but today’s action may be a shot across the bow that the many negative divergences we have been tracking in this market are no longer to be ignored.

A few individual standout like DPS TKMR were drowned out by more small cap weakness today.

More on my video market recap after the bell.

Gauging the Height of the Bounce

As I noted late in the session on Friday, I called an audible and stepped out of my bond shorts, most of which I had been holding since August 29th.

In determining where and when to reenter, I am watching the $115-$116 level, just above, on the TLT ETF for Treasuries.

The bounce today is not particularly strong, though Friday saw a rally which finally held, which was enough to see me stepping aside for now.

TBT TMV are still my preferred instruments of choice.

Short the Old Autos

I am looking at F GM as shorts today, as a play on weakening consumer stocks. More on this later.

I am also keeping an eye on AAPL for a potential short, with all of the bullish headline news about iPhone 6 sales, perhaps a sell-the-news reaction takes hold.

Drop me some afternoon tickers and ideas you are trading or pondering.
