Saturday Night at Chess Cinemas Sat Oct 20, 2012 9:05pm 3 It doesn’t get much better than the great Stanley Kubrick-directed Spartacus (1960). Kirk Douglas and Laurence Olivier lead a cast for the ages. We saw it on 58th, right around the corner from the Plaza, and it was spectacular. Ironically, it was one of my favorite flicks as a youngster… fully tv-edited of course, but it was still pretty good. Love Woody Strode. ____________ figesmalls October 21, 2012 at 11:59 am Unknown fact…Daffy Duck auditioned for the lead….when he said the line: “I’M THPARTACUTH!” Kirk Douglas fired him AND the director, hence Kubrick. jg October 21, 2012 at 11:11 pm epic flic.
