Before he conquered half the world, Genghis Khan was a slave. Mongol (2007) brilliantly tells the story of his rise to power, thanks to the stellar direction of Russian director Sergey Bodrov. Unlike most films out of Hollywood today that try too hard to be the awesome, sweeping epic tale, this one is the real deal.
Watch it.

Great choice. A bit of trivia, in conquering what is modern day Japan, Ghengis Khan introduced sheep to the island(s). Today grilled lamb in Japan is called Ghengis Khan and it is delicious.
I’m downloading it now. Thanks for the reco.
Since you reco’d a foreign film I’ll pass on that I just saw Mesrine Part 1 & 2 yesterday. Charming biopic of Frances most infamous criminal of modern history. Stars Vincent Cassel, so you know it’s above board, and the directing is top notch.
Also since you like foreign films Intacto might be right up your alley. It’s a plot driven thriller that is probably my favorite foreign film. It’s about luck.
Cheers
Yep. Mongolia rules.
My island nation of WynnsOr is currently working on bilateral, diplomatic relations with Mongolia.
I doubt V.King will permit Shire Rookness to enter into such partnership ties though.
Biologically speaking, Khan was the most successful human in history. It is estimated that 300 million people are his descendents.
..Chalk one up for the rape and pillage gene.
