A Simple Explanation of Higgs Boson {Video}
While Americans were ohhhing and ahhhing over fireworks and indulging in flag-shaped Jell-O on July 4, scientists over in Europe finally confirmed the existence of Higgs Boson aka “the God particle.” If that patriotic hangover clouds your understanding of the big finding, let MinutePhysics help with a simple explanation of Higgs Boson.

According to an author over at the National Review Online, the phrase “God particle” refers to a physicist who aptly referred to the Higgs Boson as the God damned particle because it was so hard to find. Publications had trouble with this phrase and shortened it to the God particle.
Not sure how true this is, but having worked in scientific research myself, I can believe it.
I can believe it too. One of the most brilliant physicists I ever worked with grew up in North Carolina. Walking with him once, he pulled out a pouch of Red Man, and asked if I wanted a chaw. Sure, I’ll try anything once. The two of us stood in front of the research building spitting tobacco juice all over the place. He was still a country boy at heart.
i knew it! thanks chess. hopefully this will expand peoples beliefs and bring hope .
So they still don’t know shit.
It’s a good explanation. But it really glosses over the implications.
And the implications of the Higgs are absolutely blowing my mind.
There is an actual, honest to God Higgs field. THAT is what everyone in physics is excited about.
It’s unbelievable. I really, honest to God thought they would never find it.
uh huh huh… he said ‘boson’
