The market is still in consolidation, so there isn’t much to talk about.
Although this is a descending triangle, I believe it will breakout to the upside and allow the SPX to reach the 200-day MA. I am 95% long, mostly focused on the bio/pharm and oil/gas sectors. I will make additional purchases, mainly in the oil/gas sector to balance out my exposure to bio/pharm.
Up +147% YTD 2009.

Good read.
SMH long here @ 20.47.
Daytrade only.
Sorry for the scalp CA.
My time frame is VERY short these days.
Bought PLLL $2.10
Out SMH (before existing home sales).
1% a day keeps the doctor away.
I am a singles hitter and will never lead in HRs.
Buying EWT here.
Watching VMW
CA- Are you still holding UXG?
1% a day keeps the doctor away. —- nice TC
what do you think about CPE?
Not just CPE, but watch XTEX, XTXI, AHD, APL, PQ, SGY, etc.
CA,
What you think of Amazon? I am heavily invested in it via calls and stock.
With the likes of APPL, RIMM breaking to the upside and the tremendous momentum of a “comeback consumer” (whether true or not), AMZN looks like a good buy to me. Plus they have amazing company internals.
My lottery ticket is LEN…
did anyone chew their nails off with ftk’s 9% swing this morning? i’ve got a 10% trailing on all of these sm caps — i was almost sad.
DVAX will go today! Bulking up @ 1.19
AMZN close above $81 will keep the uptrend intact.
I do not use stops, due to the large intra-day swings. These are not ‘normal’ stocks, u know.
Big mike:
it would be better if you downed rat poison as the market is crashing.
UIS and DNN have formed high and tight flags on weekly charts. Any thoughts on these?
Hi CA,
Your take on AOB and SVNT?
Thanks.
Denninger on a roll today:
“We are now looking at a top-to-bottom contraction between 20-25%, and if we keep this up and our creditors pull the rug out from under us, it could be as bad as 50%.”
http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archives/1064-Government-Motors-Is-Born.html
Hantek – They will have to be a weekly hold if you’re gonna use the weekly time frame. I personally don’t use the weekly since my holding period is generally 1-5 days (swing).
Panda – no thoughts on AOB. I like SVNT.
CA,
Asshat…AHT seems to have BO thru 4.25
WOW…market is really volatile today huh?
IMGN
Loaded!!
I know CA — but i’m poor and still licking my wounds from the 99% drop in LJPC last feb.
Take a look at copper plays. Next commodity to breakout.
Stockcharts.com: $COPPER.
Franky – holy fuck! Hope it was a small position.
Henry fool,
that DVAX chart looks beautiful to me
Sold ANPI $1.13, bought TGB $1.60
FSYS loaded too
Asshats here still going long penny stocks.
When the bottom falls out they will claim “I sold xxxx for a profit”. Not.
Wow, the wall street big boys seem to be falling hard.
http://tinyurl.com/p79qxl
sadly it was huge for me. but i had a job back then and didn’t have the opportunity to stare at these fuckers all day long. which is kind of a curs-ed blessing…
The beauty of DVAX here
is it has little to do wit the direction of the market and all to do with HEPLISAV new due by end of June. Maybe any day though considering the FDA just met on the issue last week. (I believe) I’ll post the more in a sec.
I joined the man in TGB … noice lookin
also went in for some RAD ARTG TQNT CNXT
IMGN BO coming its 7.85 grab before 8
I’d buy CREE between 30.50 and 30.80
I want to change that to CREE under $31
THAT 30.50 SHIT AINT GONNA HAPPEN
DVAX is a holding.
Henry, IMGN looks primed.
Juice, good shit.
DVAX IR says this about the meeting
Concerning the meeting.
In response to your question, we are in active discussions to resolve the FDA’s clinical hold on HEPLISAV and identify an appropriate path for approval in the United States, Europe, and the rest of the world. Although I am not able to confirm further details about these discussions or speculate about the potential timing and outcome of a response from the FDA, we continue to work diligently towards clarifying the remaining regulatory and development requirements in the first half of 2009.
Thank you for your interest in Dynavax.

UGNE
ok – if i could buy one ticker for my birthday, what should it be?
yea i know, it happens, but TGB was a fine trade off.
Focus on oil/gas and bio/pharm and some commodity names.
Nice Post, Thanks.
MRM may be getting ready to make another move .. buy a little for entertainment purposes
Juice..MRM..sold to you..good luck with that one mate..!
CA,
If you look @ the SPX 15min chart…doesn’t it look like we’re putting in a head and shoulders??
shoulders @ 914….neckline 879….?? TIA
I was just now looking for information about this when I found your blog post. I’m just stopping by to say that I really enjoyed reading this post, it is really well written. Are you planning toblog more on this? It seems like there is more material here for later posts.
franky – pick an oil/gas, bio/pharm, or commodity play. If you’re into higher priced stocks, tech is the strongest.
Fly Guy- sort of, but it depends on the time frame. We are just consolidating after yesterday’s run up. Every depends on the close, of course.
BCRX spiking BIG TIME!!
thx
RC
Add’l biotechs worth watching: CRGN, CRIS and MITI
CA – any concern w/ the action on LEA? Gracias.
Employee8 CRGN i own alot…huge potential…MITI looks interesting also…UGNE take a look. EDGR..not biotech but could spike
KERX and some of the pennies as well.
As a play in coal – JRCC looks ready to BTFO…
CNG,
CRIS is very involved/dependent on Genentech/Roche … watch for announcements from DNA
http://seekingalpha.com/article/122082-spicing-up-the-biotech-portfolio-with-microcaps-curagen-and-curis
Thanks for UGNE … will do.
How do you guys like the action on ARZ.TO?
Toronto..fuck Canadian goat shit stocks.
CA,
is the H&S on the SPX looking any clearer now??
Sorry Toronto but every time I think of a Canadian Mining Co. my thoughts turn to Bre-X (I know, not rational thinking).
How come they haven’t made a movie yet about the fraud?
HA! Toronto has a ton of mining stocks so don’t lose faith.
Potash, Goldcorp, Barrick, Teck just to name a few 🙂
CA’s recent buy, TGB is also Canadian based.
wow..PCU sure did pull back in a hurry…TBT sky rocketing…FED having problems finding takers for bonds??
Oops, our geologist fell out of our helicopter … damn!
Re Toronto Mining stocks … if I were to I’d look at AVL.TO
Someone just stepped in to buy a boatload of FMCN at $8.50 in the last hour, the stock has flown upwards while the market has gone the other way…bodes well for continued strength in the stock..
Peso down and sugar up = CZZ BTFO with plenty of blue sky above!
Ok CA, you oh so eloquently told me to “calm the fuck down” yesterday when i simply was curious who dropped 250,000 shares of AKRX in 30 seconds sending the stock from $1.20 to $1.00 instantly…now another 700,000 shares were just dropped on the ask sending the stock down 13% yet again to $1.00…this isn’t raising any red flags for you?
SRS…..thats all.
OCLS
Pequot Capital and EAM.
I don’t tell anyone to follow me into anything. Do whatever you want. I do not give financial advice.
For those interested, OCLS went ballistic today with an approval of an over the counter and prescription wound gel. I just paid a premium and picked it up for $4 a share (235% over the opening price). I’m a physician, and my sense is that such a product makes even the new market cap miniscule. In for the gamble and maybe I’m an idiot, but I think the value of the company is far more than the almost now 80 million price tag.
that was a quick 6% – probably a pullback coming up – who knows. I’ll buy more.
Bill…your correct..that purchase is the mark of an idiot..please speak only to your wife…
just saw your post John after I clicked the submit button. I gotta think we’re way good on this.
z
CNG – someone tell me when to sell, I’m up almost 10% in 10 minutes
I may be an idiot sir, but the one thing I am not is an idiot. I sold some at 10% for a cushion and because I’m a pussy, but knowing medicine as I do, I can’t imagine this one horse company not being worth a lot more.
It’s too much of a run up. be careful now.
Big runup, and greatly appreciate the caution CA. OCLS is less than a 2% share – been taking your advice on bite size pieces for a long time – along with the biotech sector in general recently, so it’s been a very fine ride. This is a long term hold / accumulate for me. I’m hopeful of a better price tomorrow, but frankly I’m not sure that will happen in this case.
By the way, same thing with ANPI – those stents are gold for a very difficult – and expensive to treat condition. Today was magnificent, but I’m not selling – no way thats a longer term hold / accumulate for me.
“Cash-N-Guns Says:
Bill…your correct..that purchase is the mark of an idiot..please speak only to your wife…”
I think you meant you’re…
Genius.
Funny how BSX never mentioned ANPI in their morning press release … ANPI was slow to release their own until noon … so how come the good doctor didn’t bring this to our attention until 3:55? Thanks Doc!
Sorry Employee, Credit 100% to CA, 5/19
The Chart Addict Says:
Bought ANPI $1.17
May 19th, 2009 at 10:06 am
ANPI wasn’t even on my radar screen until then (I bought some), and was off it until today when it popped (early sale rated a triple fuck by CA). OCLS I got curious about when I scanned the top dogs today on FINVIZ. Took me about a minute to wish I had seen it when it was only up 100% instead of 200%.
Me – I’m just trying to be the best monkey I can be and use what I know where I can – basically medicine, Health information technology, and DC electricity and storage technologies (significant hobby of eboating and ebiking – for those interested, there’s some clown on alpha always posting about lead battery technology being the way forward instead of lithium. Putz. Should he post here I would hope he gets his moustache knocked off. Trust me, he’s full of crap).
I didn’t sell ANPI when CA did because to me it was no longer a day / swing trade once I applied my background knowlege to it – and frankly I didn’t do that until it popped today – same as OCLS. To me now it’s just math – is the company / product worth (a lot) more than the stock valuation. If we’re talking about what these two companies just got approval for, my thinking is hell yeah. Not to say it won’t be a bumpy ride, but they are both leaving orbit after hours. Unless I’m fubar, I don’t think there will be a pull back on either tomorrow, but believe me I hope so.
But this is CA’s blog – and the original credit goes to him – my next child will be named for him and RC will be the middle name…Fly, I’ll try and figure out how to work that in….I’ll comment on a biotech or two of interest if I get the chance.
The Pequot shit is old. Stop sending me e-mails about it, since I know PC more than you do.
I broke it out here first, 2hrs before the media, so calm the fuck down.
So your first born will be named CARCASS?
Just kiddin’ Doc … didn’t see CA’s earlier post on ANPI. Too bad he sold it so early but there are plenty fish in this sea. Good luck with the picks … any thoughts on the ASCO presenters or is that out of your realm?
Instead of a descending triangle, can it be a bull flag?
