Taking Profits in KIM, MAC; Buying SRS

This morning, I’m adjusting my position to market neutral for the hedged REIT strategy by trimming back on KIM and MAC and buying more SRS.

CBL is is up nicely so far today.

Late Night Thoughts

Contrary to what out new president has claimed, I’m not arrogant, and neither are you. Europeans just can’t help it—-they’re just asshats, with accents, of course. Therefore, I am justified in my dismissiveness.

The USA is #1. If it’s true, it ain’t bragging.

(USA! USA! USA!)

Mr. Obama, you need to appreciate what you got here in the good ol’ USA. Be a leader.

Act like you gotta pair!

WTF REITs

Based on their performance today, you’d think the Great Recession is over and everybody and their dog will be spending the weekend at the Mall, wallet in hand.

This mall REIT stupidity cannot last. Or can it? As Keynes was once quoted, “the market can stay irrational longer than (speculators) can stay solvent”. Or, something to that effect.

I had a gift handed to me today, up 6.48% in the REIT strategy, in spite of the SRS meltdown today. Odd, no?

Check out my post in The PPT for the numbers.

Enjoy your weekend.

REIT Dividends

Maybe they’ll pay, maybe not. However, I like the prospects of double digit dividend yields, but want to hedge my bet here.

So, I bought REITs and SRS in a 2:1 dollar ratio………

MAC @ $8.28

KIM @ $7.55

CBL @ $2.65

BXP @ $37.12

Hedged with SRS @ $46.08

Do not attempt this at home while unsupervised.

Sellers Remorse

It’s always good to analyze your trades. Did you win, lose, or breakeven? How was your timing? What reasons did you have for selling? What did the stock(s) do after you sold them?

In my case, I sold too early on Monday. After walking away with a 21% return in 2 weeks, I now come to find that the stocks I sold are up another 10%+.

Upon thinking about it, I should have sold part of the position or just the “laggards”. As it turns out, I’m missing out on AINV +15%, ACAS +18%, CENX +8% and LDK +7% today. Selling these was a mistake, brought on by my prejudice that these were “penny stocks” that had their run and would be sold off imminently.

But, my biggest regret is selling AINV. That is going nowhere but up. Mark my words. I will look to buy it back on a healthy pullback (assuming we get one).
